A Big Deal
Sep 28, 2021The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can. -Neil Gaiman
We are all like this. Each person is absolutely unique, with their own talents, strengths, interests, and passions. Each person is unique in their own weaknesses, dislikes, and gaps in knowledge or experience. There will never be another person exactly like you. There will never be another person exactly like me.
I have been working on a project for many months. I have envisioned, and written, and drawn, and built to make this project a reality. I have discovered abilities that I didn’t know I had. I’ve discovered weaknesses and dislikes, too. When this project is done, it will be uniquely my own. But I need help, because I am just not good at some stuff. I need someone who has the opposite skills.
Uniqueness goes both ways. You need to appreciate your own uniqueness – both what you call the “good” parts and the “not-so-good” parts. You also need to appreciate everyone else’s uniqueness – both the “good” parts and the “not-so-good” parts. But really the labels “good” and “not-so-good” are false. Being artistic is “good” according to one person, but “not-so-good” to a person who values logic.
So celebrate who you are… all the things that you are. Find the people who understand you and lift you up. Celebrate the others in your life who have different opinions and labels. These people help you see what’s inside of yourself.
Have you had a hard time celebrating your uniqueness? Have you learned to appreciate the uniqueness of someone else? Leave a comment!
Until next time, remember… We are all magnificent.
